This session wil l take a comprehensive look at the Intelligent Edge today. This covers 1) the nature of the edge; 2) aspects surrounding the edge including data, AI, security, and device; 3) solution examples; 4) markets; and 5) data mo del. It does not cover IoT, but focuses on how devices provide data to the edge. Presented for architects and business leaders who seek to unders tand the overall context and direction of the Intelligent Edge.
\nAs data strategies move back from cloud compute, storage, and aggregation towa rd the local edge, a new management workflow and governance is evolving aro und “The Intelligent Edge.” We cannot now just send d ata to cloud from the edge and hope everything is managed or governed; rath er, local practices must now do intelligent things like security, machine l earning, and data quality. This ensures less latency and greater protection for the data. The very fabric of the data means metadata is critical in au tomation for faster edge management. Market factors in sectors such as Industrial IoT, FinTech, and Retail are emerging to do more than  ;what lighter cloud services can accomplish. This presentation shows n ew solutions, models of data defensibility, and choices on how to mana ge the new cloud and edge interface. The presentation speaks to archit ects and stewards who will make the choices of flexible and responsive data workflows.
\nCost savings: Less, more meaningful data means lower co mpute, storage, and services fee. In addition, the operational cost savings turns into better analytical decisions on energy ROI for the system and se nsors themselves. By understanding the exact nature of a sensor data cost a nd how it affects the system, the estimate in industrial setting is upwards of 10 to 15 percent on just energy alone. We have a good model f or decision making here. Examples for energy and telecom will be presented.
\nSystem elements: a top-level understanding of the Intelligen t Edge will be provided to consider the elements that are affected across h ardware, software, and data management tools. The Intelligent Edge is a new area of data management and governance.
